The Lunar New Year, known as the Spring Festival is a great occasion to the Chinese people.
农历新年，即春节，是中国人民的盛事。
Several days before the new year, people begin to prepare. They will prepare a lot of dishes for this special festival. Houses are cleaned; couplets are posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate.
在新年的前几天，人们便会开始准备。他们会为这个特殊的节日准备各种丰盛的大餐。同时，人们会打扫房子、贴对联，并在门口悬挂五颜六色的灯笼。
On the New Year’s eve, each family has its members gather together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the feast, they watch the Spring Festival Gala until the clock strikes twelve. Then every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fireworks to welcome the new year.
