并非人人都读懂了毛姆？《月亮与六便士》中译本的一些普遍误读(7)

Miss Waterford, torn between the aestheticism of her early youth, when she used to go to parties in sage green, holding a daffodil, and the flippancy of her maturer years, which tended to high heels and Paris frocks, wore a new hat.
沃特福德小姐早年参加聚会时常常身着灰绿色衣服，手持一朵黄水仙，更成熟的她则偏好高跟鞋和巴黎风长裙，现在，年轻时的唯美风格和成熟后的佻达风格正在她身上互撕，她还戴了一顶新帽子。
这一句因为句子本身比较长，有些译者没搞明白什么意思，乱译一气；有些虽然读懂了，中文能力却不足以让他们把意思表达到位，会漏掉一层意思。
第二十一章中的一段对话里也有一处比较有意思的例子：

You rejoice in your freedom, and you feel that at last you can call your soul your own. You seem to walk with your head among the stars. And you find some woman, coarse and low and vulgar, some beastly creature in whom all the horror of sex is blatant, and you fall upon her like a wild animal. You drink till you"re blind with rage."
